Talking entrepreneurship and marketing at SCAD

I’m really pumped about a talk I’m doing at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) this coming weekend.

I’ll be talking about a theory I’ve been working on for a while now.  I believe that today’s marketer needs to embrace the same traits that an entrepreneur has if they want to be successful.  They need to be flexible, willing to fail, passionate, etc.  The corollaries are striking when you break it down.  And I’m going to basically walk through my story and show times I had and then didn’t have those qualities, where I failed and where I succeeded.

They’re even running a contest for who can come up with the most creative reason for why they want to have one-on-one time with me, which is fun but I’d be happy to meet with any of them.  When I meet with young people (am I old enough to say “young people”?  I think I am.  #gettingold), I am positive I learn more than they do.  They’re optimistic, wide-eyed, un-contaminated by corporate politics and just generally want to do something in life that they are passionate about, and I dig that.

Can’t wait for Saturday, looking forward to it SCAD!

Actually I’m going a bit different with this one, no slides, just talk, using Mind Meister on my iPad for notes.
