Thanks to ICANN’s possible new gTLD decision, we might soon be able to realize this…

If you haven’t heard, ICANN is considering the possibility of allowing companies to create their own gTLD’s (generic top level domains).  Basically, an Atlanta beverage company could own the .coke domain.  So no longer would companies be bound to have .com, .net, .org, etc.

Personally I think this is absurd and simply a way for ICANN to make more money.  You can hear more about my and others thoughts on this DIG:this podcast.

Anyhow, a long time ago this Saturday Night Live skit came out and to this day I’ve always thought it to be one of the funniest “commercials” they’ve ever done.  And now, thanks to ICANN, this might actually be a possibility!
